What is Acid Washing
​Nevada is a wonderful place to live given all the sunshine we are blessed with. That said, extreme sun exposure makes keeping a pool clean a little more tricky. Many people neglect pools for repeated periods of time and others multiple days or weeks in a row.

​Acid washing is a complicated process and should only be done in certain pool care situations. When it is necessary to acid wash your pool investment, it must be done in a proper and safe by a professional. We have seen many pools that were incorrectly acid washed. The process is dangerous to the pool care individuals performing the task, can be damaging to the pool surface if done incorrectly, and can be harmful to your home environment.
Why Use Acid Washing?
​The reason to perform acid washing to a pool, spa, or Jacuzzi is to exfoliate and remove oxidized metals, algae stains, and foreign particles. In less common circumstances it is used to remove harmful chemicals that have built up on the aggregate. With the power of our acid wash solution, we can resuscitate your pool! An acid wash becomes vital if the pool has been stagnant for an extended period of time and therefore the algae have manifested throughout the pool.
A general rule of thumb for determining the need for an acid wash is: if you can see the bottom of the pool (the floor) then you can bring it back with chemicals, labor, and filtering. If the floor is not visible, the cost of the chemicals and labor will generally be greater than the acid wash charge and take much, much longer. Also, extensive algae blooms will stain plastered pools, making acid wash desirable.
You may also decide on an acid wash, not because of swamp conditions, but just to bring out a brighter, whiter finish. Mineral stains and/or deposits, chlorine stains, even dirt stains…an acid wash can make a dramatic aesthetic improvement.

Acid is a dangerous substance.

​We at VPS are specially trained in its application and wear protective clothing and breathing apparatus during the acid wash. It is not recommended to do an acid wash on your own.
